American Imperialism

This cartoon represents American Imperialism and directly shows how the United States benefited from Imperialism. Within the cartoon, you see that the 5 men on top, represent the United States and how we were living before we accepted imperialism. The 5 men on the bottom show the United States after we accepted Imperialism and it portrays how much better our country became because of Imperialism.

The United States became an Imperialistic country in the last part of the 1800's because of desire for more power and authority. Not only that, but the economy also played a big part in why the United States became an imperialistic country. During the late 1800's the U.S. became known as the the world's industrial producer. With America's economy in good shape and gaining so much benefits, the support of imperialism grew and the United States soon became an Imperialistic nation.

Labor Unions

Labor Unions, in the 19th Century were summed up as workers coming together to make a union in order to increase their power. In the 19th Century it was common for individual workers to lose power and lose their jobs because of how much the industry grew. Therefore, the workers would come together in order to create a power that was higher than their bosses and employees.

Within this cartoon, you see that there is a man on the right who's riding a horse and he is labeled as "Labor". This man represents a worker or workers who are fighting within a labor union to exert their power. Where as, the rider on the right represents the bosses, and the industry which keeps growing and taking all the power; making work and living hard for people living in poverty. 

Causes of WW1

This political cartoon represents an Alliance, which is one of the Causes of World War One. An Alliance is defined as a union or agreement between two or more countries stating that they will have each other's back and be on their side. Within this political cartoon, you see that Austria is threatening Serbia, therefore; Russia goes after Austria because Russia has an Alliance made with Serbia. There is an Alliance between Serbia, Russia, and France. And an Alliance between Austria, Germany, etc.

The United States had entered World War One because of The Sinking of the Lusitania, The Zimmerman Telegram, Economic ties to European power, and The Russian Revolution. These all were reasons why The United States joined the war.

I think that this picture from Reconstruction after the Civil War depicts how there was a struggle for labor and between the white and black men, there was major competition for jobs.

John Bell Biography

John Bell was born February 15, 1797 in a town near Nashville, Tenessee. John Bell entered the U.S. House of Representatives in 1827 and served there as a Democrat until 1841. After years of much political envolvement, he was elected as U.S. Senator for Tenessee in 1847. He served for the senate until 1859. John Bell supported slavery but did not agree with the idea of expanding it. He was a democrat and ran for president soon after, with his candidates being Lincoln, Breckenridge, and Douglas. He voted against the compromise of 1850 and was against everything that President James Knox was involved with. He soon then went into retirement during Lincolns presidency and in his call for troops, Bell found himself going into retirement in Georgia, in 1865.
